Photography Monday: Hearst Castle

After driving Highway 1, we made a stop at Hearst Castle.  We have visited often and always find something new to discover.  We picked an available tour and headed up the hill.  On this day, there was a Sunset magazine event later in the afternoon so our tour was condensed, but we were allowed to wander around the property unescorted.  How lucky can we be?  We enjoyed our short tour of some of the cottages plus the wine cellar.  Then, we were let loose to explore the property while Sunset magazine finished the set-up for their event.  We explored some of the back patios of the cottages as well as the gardens around the castle.

The back side of the castle isn’t as ornate as the front, but found this beautifully sculpted arch.

The main castle is beautiful from every angle.

Mr. Hearst had exquisite taste in art and architecture and this piece was recently restored and placed back onto the property.

The backdrop of the hills and mountains is breathtaking.

A have a few more photos to share from our visit in the next installment.  For more tour information, please visit the Hearst Castle site.
