I love hearts! I have been wanting to make another garland to hang in my dining room so now was the time. You need the following tools and supplies to create this garland:
- Cricut/Creative Memories Tiny Treasures cartridge
- Cricut Folk Art Festival cartridge
- Cricut machine
- hole punch
- patterned paper
- die cuts
- cardstock
- adhesive
- foam dots
- ribbon
To create the flags, cut out the kraft flags at 5″ and the heart paper flags at 4.5″ from the Tiny Treasures cartridge. Cut out the LOVE letters at 3.5″, the pale pink shadow letters at 3.5″ and the hearts at 3″ from the Folk Art cartridge. Adhere it all together and add the 14th and Be My Valentine onto the hearts with foam tape. Hole punch the upper corners of each flag and string the ribbon through the flags to create a finished garland.
Many years ago in a quilt class, the instructor told us to let the patterned fabric do the work. Let it happen and don’t fuss over it. I remembered this when I was designing this garland. The patterned paper in the background of the flags adds the depth it needs to make it more interesting, not so flat and plain. But the trick is, not to overwork it. I think I achieved the desired effect. It is perfect for my dining room and adds that needed decoration for the upcoming celebration of Valentine’s Day.
I also added this decoration to my living room, Ornament-filled cloche, and Punched Hearts Garlands to my parlor. Have you decorated for Valentine’s Day yet?
